Helena Katrib

Massage Therapist
Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice

Helena has a very profound interest in the dynamics of the human body and the way it works. She has completed her Cert IV in Remedial Massage and is currently completing a BA of Exercise and Sports Science. Her aim is to qualify as a Physiotherapist in order to further assist people who are dealing with injury or muscular tension.

Having experienced several sporting injuries over the years, Helena found that a regular massage assisted significantly in preventing and recovering from injuries. Now that Helena has completed her first level of studies, her focus in her treatments is on releasing muscle adhesions, releasing fascia, and increasing your range of movement.

Helena aims to locate and treat pain, stiffness and discomfort through deep tissue, relaxation, trigger point and sports massage. Pre and post game massages can assist your performance and minimise the delayed onset of muscle soreness.

Helena believes that stretching and home exercises will heighten the results of massage. She takes initiative in practicing PNF stretching in the clinic and providing clients with stretches and exercises that will assist them between visits.

What to expect at your first appointment:

At your first session, your massage therapist will ask you the reasons for you seeking a therapist, the history of your problem to establish when and where it first started and how they may have changed over time, the treatments (if any) you have received to date, and the impact it may be having on your life.

The therapist may then jump straight into your massage, or they may need to do a few motion tests by asking you to bend and move into a variety of positions- to see where your muscles and fascia are tight. Generally, none of these movements are painful, however if you are in acute pain, your therapist may ask you to demonstrate what positions and movements reproduce or exacerbate your pain a little.

At the conclusion of your first massage, your therapist will suggest a treatment plan to see you reaching your goals. Some people only require the occasional massage to relax and loosen up, whereas those who regularly participate in high-intensity exercise or impact sports may find that a regular massage be it weekly or fortnightly help them stay in top condition.
If you are under the care of one of Back to Active Physiotherapists, Osteopaths or practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine, or have been training with one of Box HQ’s instructors or personal trainers, your therapist will communicate with them so that all training sessions and treatments are working towards a common goal.
